New Hampshire Absentee Ballot Process

Absentee ballots are avaiable from your town or city clerk approximately 30 days before an election. A person may vote by absentee ballot if:

New Hampshire ID Needed for Voting

A photo ID will be requested of you, but you may sign a simple affidavit and have your photo taken.

Acceptable Federal and State Photo IDs (may be expired within the last five years, unless you are over 65 and then no expiration restrictions apply)

New Hampshire ID Needed for Voter Registration

Beginning September 8, 2017, when registering to vote, you are required to provide proof of identity, age, citizenship, and domicile (where you live). Proof of identity, age, citizenship and domicile can be shown by providing one or more of the below options:

New Hampshire Election Dates

The next election date is Tuesday, September 11, 2018 (Primary). The registration deadline is Wednesday, August 29, 2018. Election Day registration is available.

New Hampshire Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to vote in New Hampshire you must be:

  • 18 years of age or older on Election Day (you may register at 17 years old if you are 18 years old by the next election date)
  • A U.S. citizen
  • Domiciled in New Hampshire
