Virginia Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot is November 14th, 2022 (by noon). If your ballot is found incomplete or incorrect, the registrar should notify you of the error within three days by mail or email with information on how to correct the issue. If you voted a provisional ballot, you would need to submit a copy of a valid ID to the registrar by noon on November 14th, 2022.

Vermont Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot is November 8th, 2022. If your ballot is found incomplete or incorrect, the registrar should notify you of the error within one business day by mail or email with information on how to correct the issue. We recommend that you track the status of your ballot using your state’s online tool before Election Day to make sure it has been received and accepted.

Utah Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot is 5 pm the day before the official canvass, seven-14 days after Election Day (November 15-22, 2022).  If your ballot is received and rejected before Election Day, an election official should notify you within one to two business days; seven days if it was received and rejected on Election Day; and seven days if received and rejected between Election Day and the end of the official canvas. If you voted a provisional ballot, you have until November 14th, 2022, to present evidence to support your eligibility to vote.

Texas Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot by mail is on Election Day, November 8th, 2022, or in person at your county clerk's office by November 14th, 2022. If the ballot board determines it's possible to correct the error and return the envelope before the polls close on Election Day, the board will return it to you by mail. Suppose the board determines that it would not be possible for you to correct the defect and return the ballot by mail.

Tennessee Ballot Cure Process

Tennessee does not have an absentee/mail ballot curing process. We recommend that you track the status of your ballot using your state’s online tool before Election Day to make sure it has been received and accepted. Suppose you voted a provisional ballot due to not having the proper photo identification at the polls. In that case, you must appear at the election commission office with your valid photo ID and fill out a form to correct the issue by November 10th, 2022.

South Dakota Ballot Cure Process

South Dakota does not have an absentee/mail ballot curing process. We recommend that you track the status of your ballot using your state’s online tool before Election Day to make sure it has been received and accepted. If you voted a provisional ballot due to not having the proper photo identification at the polls, you may have to appear before the county with your valid photo ID and fill out a form to correct the issue. Questioned ballots are either counted or rejected 7-17 days after Election Day.

South Carolina Ballot Cure Process

South Carolina does not have an absentee/mail ballot curing process. We recommend that you track the status of your ballot using your state’s online tool before Election Day to make sure it has been received and accepted. If you cast a provisional ballot due to not having the proper photo identification, you may appear before the county with your valid photo ID and fill out a form to correct the issue.

Rhode Island Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot is November 15, 2022. If your ballot is challenged, a local board of canvassers is responsible for notifying you by mail, email, or phone with details and instructions on how to correct the issue. If you voted a provisional ballot, you can check on the status of your vote using your state's tool. Questioned ballots are either counted or rejected by November 10th, 2022.

Pennsylvania Ballot Cure Process

The ballot curing process in Pennsylvania varies by county. If you believe you may have made a technical error on your ballot but have not been notified, please get in touch with your county elections office and ask if they will let you cure your ballot to fix the problem. Otherwise, you can go to your polling place on Election Day and request a provisional ballot. Questioned ballots are either counted or rejected by November 15th, 2022.

Oregon Ballot Cure Process

The deadline to cure (correct) your absentee/mail ballot is November 22, 2022. If your ballot is challenged due to failure to sign the return envelope or a nonmatching signature, the county clerk will mail you a notice that describes the error and instructions for correcting the issue. If you voted a provisional ballot, you have until the same deadline above to present evidence to support your eligibility to vote.
