Beginning in 2021, several cities across Utah will be piloting a new Ranked Choice voting system in municipal elections. Those cities are:
Bluffdale | Cottonwood Heights |
Draper
|
Elk RIdge | Genola |
Goshen |
Heber City | Lehi |
Magna |
Midvale | Millcreek |
Moab
|
Newton | Nibley |
Payson
|
River Heights | Riverton |
Salt Lake City
|
Sandy | South Salt Lake |
Springville
|
Vineyard | Woodland Hills |
|
In the cities with Ranked Choice voting, there will be no primary elections. However, all candidates will be listed on the General Election ballot and voters can rank the candidates in order of preference from first to last. When counting ballots, the candidate with the lowest vote gets dropped off until the final candidate wins.
